About the show
TOTO tells the story of the deep and emotional bond between Effy, a 12-year-old girl, and her dog, Toto. Tim Crouch’s play explores this special connection to talk about what keeps us afloat when the world around us collapses: about courage, love, friendship, the importance of listening (to ourselves), and especially about the sounds of dawn, darkness, loneliness, broken hearts, or unexpected hopes.
Because her mother is in the hospital, Effy ends up living with her uncle and aunt in a building where pets are not allowed. So she has to come up with all sorts of ingenious solutions to hide Toto from both her relatives and all the neighbors. The only one who knows her secret is her new friend, Noah, but Toto cannot be hidden for long.
